Shawza Life -Wine Tripping
August 5, 2008
My brother Craig run’s a blog called Shawza Life through which he explores his passion for food and the occasional drink - well, being a student I suppose it’s more than the occasional drink!
In his latest post he gives a rather candid account of a wine trip he and all his university friends went on through the Constantia Valley.
Read : Wine Tripping with the boys and girls!
The fun aspect of the trip aside - it shows just how seriously wine snobbery can shape the perceptions of young, enthusiastic drinkers. Wine owners must realize that one day this ‘rowdy’ bunch will all have degree’s, new jobs and money to spend.
I can guarantee you that none of them will be spending that money on Constantia Uitsig’s wine in the future and all because one lady couldn’t see the lighter side of life for an hour or two.
Pity.
What is important and great to see though is that these young guy’s and girls are drinking wine with the enthusiasm of drinking beer. We could do with some more of that.
Ps: if you’re looking for a quick and easy “Chicken Liver Pate” recipe then click here for my brothers attempt at it.

So true - why is it that people look at a group of young people and automatically assume “HOOLIGANS!!”. It always astonishes me that people don’t stop and think for a second that today’s students are tomorrow’s wealthy consumers - don’t p*ss them off! OK, I will admit that you do get up to some questionable and annoying stuff as a student, but why not wait till people actually misbehave before losing your sense of humour? I remember once as a student walking into a jewellery store and asking about a piece in the window. The snooty shop assistant looked me up and down and said “It’s very expensive, you know”. At the time I cringed and left soon after - in my present incarnation I would obviously say “I’m pretty sure I didn’t ask the price - show it to me *now*!”

Just wanted to say, I agree with what you have written and I like your style of writing..
Sad how plastic people out there are so narrow minded…
Oh well…
Your sense of humor shows through your writing..
Interesting!
Cheers,

Thanks for a great compliment to the Steenberg tasting room staff! We welcome the younger generation to our Tasting Room, as you guys are today and tomorrow’s consumers. It is great to see a growing interest in wine from the X-ers and Millenials! Hope to see you back soon! Anetha, Sales and Marketing
