eWine’s amazing “One for One” offer.

This morning I was in the process of buying some wine online when I stumbled upon this amazing offer from eWine:
“One for One”
Buy 3, 6, 12 or 24 bottles of Hartenburg Cab Sav Shiraz 2005 and receive the same amount free!
The only catch is that you need to have a Gold, Titanium or Platinum Mastercard credit card in order to qualify for the offer.
So if you have a qualifying credit card then jump to it and if you dont then find a friend who does!!
This is a great and innovative offer so eWine, Mastercard and Hartenburg must be applauded for raising the bar and putting it out there.

No, that is not the only catch. Despite their advertising saying it is open to ‘all Gold, Titanium and Platinum MasterCard cardholders’, it wouldn’t accept my Platinum Mastercard number. Ithink it is open only to South African cards. Which, since ewine deliver to the EU, they should state.

perhaps for the inconvenience they should send you that one for one deal anyway.
hope they change the non SA card thing - would make sense.

Your card also needs to be registered with Securecode. So it is not a straight forward generous offer from Hartenburg, but seems to be a ploy to get you to register with Securecode - whatever that may be.

MasterCard SecureCode is an anti-fraud mechanism which is here to stay. It will only be a matter of time before every cardholder is enrolled in this program. So no, it is not a ‘catch’ as you suspect. Also, the website clearly states this offer only applies to MasterCards issued in South Africa - http://www.ewine.co.za/mc.php. If Amazon or eBay run a promotion in the US they do not necessarily offer the same in other countries? So why should we. There are other issues to consider, logistics, costs and trade agreements with existing importers. We will keep this one for South Africans only.
I know only too well when you see an almost unbelievable offer that there is some catch somewhere…. well there is not one here folks.
No frills, no catches, everything is above board. Just one really great offer!

@ Louis - thanks for taking the time to comment here on The Cru - I appreciate you clearing up exactly what the promotion entails. I guess when you stumble across an offer as good as this one - in this day and age, the first reaction is “there must be some catch”! The catch for me is a large one - I don’t have the right Credit Card! Dammit! lots of my friends have taken up the offer so i’m sure I’ll be seeing hartenburg at the next years worth of dinner parties! Will eWine be running any further promotions like this one -different wine producer perhaps?
