Now the let the Christmas sales soar (for both guide and wines) - if there’s any stock left!
Some usual suspects in the line up there but some notable new entries like vilafonte, Eagles Nest and Sterhuis.
I think Kanonkop thoroughly deserve their status as winery of the year - they’ve always been one of my favourites.
I’d like to extend a personal message of congratulation to vilafonte for their well deserved recognition - I think they’ll become a permanent fixture on this list in the future.
Now all I need to do is send a letter to Father Xmas asking for a bottle of each 5 Star wine to try ![]()

Hi Brendan, thanks for the congratulations and your ongoing support - we are pretty chuffed with the path to five stars for Vilafonte. We have submitted 8 wines in 4 years and never received less than 4.5 stars with nomination for 5 stars 3 times, but to date always unsuccesful at ‘cracking the nod’ - so to speak!.
We would be delighted to give you a bottle of the Vilafonte Series C 2006 as a thank you for blogging about us!
All the best,
Mike Ratcliffe

3 or 4 years til peak blend in most of the winners. With the economic situation and low prices, it’s like Christmas already!

How lovely to see a quirky estate like Mons Ruber on the list. I’ve been a fan of theirs for years
