A great crowd pleasing little shiraz.
April 3, 2009
I love it when you stumble upon a great little bottle of wine when before drinking it you have little expectation of how it is going to taste.
The Wine Thief came over the other night and said in these exact words:
” here, I’ve become a wine snob lately so I bought this little shiraz from woolies for us to try”
Well, I tell you what - that unassuming little shiraz was bloody marvelous - and two sips later we had returned to being wine snobs trying to outdo each other with fancy adjectives to describe the wine! haha pompous idiots.
Woolworths Longmarket Red Stone Shiraz
Like liquid velvet, it melts in your mouth. A smooth concoction of red berries, plums and mocha. This wine is perfect for winter - it warms the soul with every sip and has a finish that will see you through hibernation.
The wine is the product of Rooiberg Winery and is an absolute gem - give it a go and let me know what you think.

Cru and Thief :-),
I’m endlessly astonished by the value to be found in these wines. I know that when you’re in Rome, etc, but every time I do a currency calculation back to US$ for some of these wines I can’t work out how they can do it. Awesome value, especially in the lower end of the Chenin market as well. A great time to be a wine drinker- wish I could say the same as a producer!
All the best
