One might argue that considering the pedigree of judges and the stringency in scoring involved in this competition, the Old Mutual Trophy Show is the most important competition of it’s kind in South Africa. Being awarded a trophy or gold medal (90 point plus) in this competition is therefore a fine achievement indeed.

To be honest I couldn’t give two hoots but it’s worth acknowledging the achievement - I think.

Before you accept these wines as the best of the best in South Africa - consider for a moment that the following wine estate’s didn’t even enter the competition:

Kanonkop, Waterford, Meerlust, Boekenhoutskloof

My advice is: don’t take these awards too seriously - get out there, drink lots of wine and formulate your own opinions.
