WineX tonight!

I’m heading through to WineX in Cape Town this evening with a couple of friends.

The main objective for us will be to go and laugh at our good friend the Wine Thief at his Under the Influence stand (E2) - he’ll be the ugly guy in the pink suit.

As it is with most years, my other objective will be to find that one standout wine of the show - which in itself is a frivolous exercise because there are just too many wines to try.

Take a look at the list of exhibitors here to plan your attack for the evening.

Hang on one second - I’ve just had a look at that list and there are some notable names missing (eg. Kanonkop, Warwick etc)  - perhaps some of the estates have had enough?

I was really looking forward to trying the new vintage of Kanonkop Pinotage - so I’m a little disappointed that they won’t be there…

Which bring me to the following question:

Kanonkop have obviously taken a considered decision not to attend WineX this year - I want to know why? Furthermore, I’d like to know if you think wine shows are worth going to A) as a consumer and B) as an estate.

I’ve heard that some estates think it’s a waste of time and I’ve also heard a couple of friends say wine shows are a waste of time - so I’m curious to know what you the esteemed Cru reader thinks!
