Old Photo’s of Cape Town

Date October 22, 2009

In the lobby of the building in which I work, there is a wonderful collection of really old photographs of Cape Town.

It’s amazing to see how much has changed - for better or worse - and with so much happening in South Africa at the moment, one wonders what Cape Town will look like in 50 years time.

The images on the wall in the lobby capture something magical - I’m not sure whether it’s the style of photography or just the romantic idea of living in and experiencing a bygone era.

Either way they’re interesting and I’ve found some more photo’s for everyone to have a look at:

District Six

Bantry Bay without the mansions

Camps Bay without Caprice

The V&A Waterfront without Louis Vuitton

Long Street without the drug dealers

Adderley Street

Cable Car - love how the guy is just hanging out the side

De Waal Drive - looks backed up!

Sandy Bay - casual vibes

I am an Indian, who for the past few months has been building a website on South Africa and have been actively involved in posting/looking at fascinating Cape Town pictures. :)

Which is why looking at these “old” pictures makes me feel - “Ah..so this was Cape Town once?”

    Thank you for sharing. :)
