Eddie Vedder Wine Watch: Eddie Drinks Bodegas Dinastia Vivanco

Date August 17, 2010

Yesterday in our latest Eddie Vedder Wine Watch post we asked what wine Eddie was drinking at a concert in Bilbao, Spain.

Today we have an answer courtesy of Genevieve from Cellar Tours who recognised the unique bottle - such is the power of social media.

Eddie is drinking wine from Bodegas Dinastia Vivanco.

Forensic evidence is presented below:

The bottle:

Thanks to Genevieve for helping us out with this one.

I wonder if Eddie has ever enjoyed a bottle or two of South African wine - perhaps he has a view on Pinotage?

Eddie?

Ps. When the hell are Pearl Jam coming to play in South Africa - guaranteed it will sell out in a day.

Pps. If you do come to South Africa I will gladly take you on a tour of our winelands Eddie. Furthermore I and can suggest some fantastic wine for the shows.

Eddie Vedder Wine Watch: Vedder drinks wine in Bilbao.

Date August 16, 2010

We continue our Eddie Vedder Wine Watch series with this recent shot of our favourite rock god: Eddie Vedder drinking wine from the bottle at a Pearl Jam concert in Bilbao, Spain.

I’ve tried zooming into the bottle to try and make out what wine it is but with no success. If we combine our knowledge I think we may be able to work it out.

1. The concert is in Bilbao, Spain - so a Spanish wine?
2. The bottle is oddly shaped and has a distinct ‘estate sketch” label
3. It is a red wine without doubt - Rioja perhaps?

Any ideas?

Perhaps Eddie, you would like to comment yourself to help us out (dreaming)?!

Is it the sulphur or the histamines?

Date July 26, 2010

I almost always get a blocked nose when I drink most (but not all ) cheap wines.

It’s something I experience when I drink really cheap, preservative laden fruit juices too - I react instantly - in fact I can smell the stuff in both juice and wine and tell you before I drink it that I’m going to react to it.

So what causes the blocked nose?

I always thought it was the Sulphur in wine and the Sodium Benzonate in the juices - but perhaps not.

A recent tweet from myself led @diproc and @sampugh1 to suggest that the main culprit could in fact be the Histamines found in wine. Interesting.

They pointed me to the following article

Wine and Headaches - Maybe not what you think.

and I found one more that is really worth reading:

This wine is making me feel…Sneezy?

What have I concluded from this research? Nothing really - I still don’t know what cause my reaction.

A usefull tip though: if you think you have an allergy to Sulphur - then go and buy a packet of dried apricots and eat them. If you react after eating them - then you are probably allergic to Sulphur.

If not - then it may be the Histamines.

Failing that - just drink better wine!
